Flower still lifes are a small but not insignificant corner of Henk Helmantel’s oeuvre. During his training at the Minerva Academy, Henk became increasingly fascinated by Impressionism. Most of Henk’s works from this period were painted in that style. Look closely and you can see this Impressionist influence reflected in Henk’s later realist works as well. That is exactly why Henk is sometimes called a fine painter, but he absolutely is not one.
