About this work
Debora Makkus has for years been among the ‘Masters of Realism’, a selection of outstanding realist artists. Her works have featured in more than 45 museum exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. Her work has a strong identity of its own. In her series Romeins glas, Debora paints a Mercury bottle from the 2nd/3rd century AD. Small bottles of this shape were named after Mercury because he was the Roman god of trade. They are found only in Italy and in the western part of the Roman Empire.
