At a recent auction where most works sold for more than I would dare ask a collector, this work remained well below market value. Sometimes you get lucky. The strength of the work lies not only in what is depicted, but also in what has been omitted. This creates a very good composition. The unity of the color scheme does the rest. Anyone who thinks that Helmantels come into their own primarily in classical settings is mistaken. This work with lemons would also look beautiful in a sleek modern interior.
