About this work
The Sint Galluskerk in Angerlo was built in the 11th or 12th century using bog ironstone. The church’s original square pillars are characteristic of the pre-Romanesque style. They are unique in the Netherlands. It is hardly surprising that Henk Helmantel has placed one of these pillars at the heart of this beautiful work. The atmosphere, with its soft light, recalls the monasteries in France that feature among Helmantel’s finest works.
